Klayton Dawson was bred in the musical traditions of Washtenaw county (Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti) from age 0, coming up the son of Ryan Dawson (of the Riots, Modern Lady Fitness, etc.) he was steeped in the yearly ritual of attending Totally Awesome Fest where he formed a band in high school called the Lovelies, a three boy 50s pop band who would lie underneath a blanket in the dark and write entire albums of infectious and strange love ballads.

When I met Klay he would spend a week obsessing over making a perfect song, losing his journal, 4 cell phones, his insulin and 6 pairs of glasses in the process each time. I noticed that by the time he had found all of his cell phones he had forgotten to record or perform the song he had just written. I then asked him if he'd want to have me put together bands and produce his record and over the course of the next two years thats what we did, in the meantime getting into a fateful car crash on the Jazz Dogs tour of America, quitting cigarettes a hundred times and witnessing Klay process his role as a water protector and adult.

Klay's got a rawness and an original songwriting voice that blends Ypsilanti's Iggy Pop-Ism, Neil Young-ism, Bing Crosby Lounge Crooner-ism and Billy Corgan Whispery Voice-Ism (which he doesn't like to hear but whatever) into a coherent, vulnerable, growth-oriented masterpiece that I'm proud to have worked on for the last three years. It was such a pleasure to spend time with the extremely talented musicians and friends that have helped make this project a reality. And to spend time with these songs.

Please enjoy the music of my great friend, the musician, Klayton Dawson.
